Prime Minister of Aruba reacts on Boycott Call.

Aruban government officials have complained to the U.S. State Department about the governor of Alabama's call for a boycott of the Dutch Caribbean island for its alleged mishandling of the investigation into the disappearance of an American teenager.

The government of the Dutch territory hopes State Department officials will help halt a boycott that could damage Aruba's crucial tourist industry, Prime Minister Nelson Oduber told reporters.

"This is a preposterous and irresponsible act," Oduber said Tuesday night after attending a closed session with members of Parliament to discuss the boycott. "We are not guerillas. We are not terrorists. We don't pose a threat to the United States, nor to Alabama."

The prime minister, while expressing sympathy with the family of missing Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway, said Aruban investigators have done their best to solve the mystery and the entire island doesn't deserve to be punished because there have been no arrests in the high-profile case.

"We condemn and lament what has happened to Aruba," he said.
