The Aftermath.

Last night on the Aaron Brown Newsnight show you could hear and see the devastation.
Jeanne Meserve just broke my heart. Buildings that normally you would only see like that from reports in Iraq or other devastated areas, you could not imagine that this was Louisiana, USA.

Up to now, they are not sure of how many casualties are, but they just started the search and is already reaching the 100 mark.
Search and rescue operations are still underway and are places that are still not accesible.

This picture is a reminder that mother nature is more powerful than anything and anyone in this world.

My new Money.

It has been considered a rarity, a collection item by the ones that not necessarily used it everyday. I use it. However, now they gonna change it, forever.

Yeah, they are changing our square Aruban 5 Florin to a normal shape... well, we still have the square fifty cents. But I'm gonna miss it.

Katrina

This morning at 6.38 a.m. I received a breaking news message on my phone. One of the strongest hurricane in the last century called Katrina has hit mainland with forces of a category 4, after loosing some strength during the night.

Hundreds of thousand were evacuated, some decided to stay and the superdome used as a shelter. Early reports this morning showed of few deaths and collapsed building walls, even the superdome sustained damages to its roof.

I guess at the end of the week, we should get a better picture of the damages caused by this terrible weather phenomena. By now, it has been downgraded to category 2.

I have never been through a hurricane, eventhough we sit outside the hurricane belt, we got some pretty bad weather of hurricanes that passed by.

What they hear is what they believe.

Early this morning my colleague came to me and informed that the son of the Minister of Health was detained over the weekend for shooting on a member of an opposite party. Uhmmm, sounded too good to be true. Apparently there was a big fight, where ambulances had to come to pick-up the victims and such.

Considering that this colleague is a person that never goes out and spent all his time in front of his PC onlince at home and just gets his news from websites and other blogs, I decided to check his story.

Well, just like I imagined it, he just mixed up three different cases and took them as facts. The first has to do with a case where two friends that had problems with each other, started a fight and began a shooting. This was the week before and the guy is now in jail.

The second was a fight that took place outside the Havana Beach Club, in which a guy lost his finger in the fight, and a ambulance had to be called to take him to the hospital.

And the issue with the Minister's son was that he apparently threatened a person during the weekend, and here on the island, if you threaten someone, you can be sent to jail and prosecuted.

However he was detained for interrogations, the investigation began in which several witnesses were inteviewed, was apparent that the statement do not match. He was released after a few hours. Later on Sunday he was rearrested for more interrogations. The one who dennounced him to the police can be prosecuted if the allegations are false. But guess we won't be reading that in the newspaper though.
